Balancing Careers and Entrepreneurial 'Dreams'

Balancing Careers and Entrepreneurial 'Dreams'

Don't you just love working for someone else?! No, me neither.

Are you feeling lost or unfulfilled in your career? Do you find yourself asking the question, "Is this all there is?" If so, you're not alone. Many people feel stuck in their jobs, unsure of how to move forward or what steps to take to find a career that truly fulfils them.

That's where career guidance comes in. At CreativeLC, we specialise in helping individuals discover their path to professional fulfilment. Here are some tips and strategies to help you find your way.

  1. Identify Your Strengths and Passions

The first step in finding a fulfilling career is to identify your strengths and passions. What are you good at, and what do you enjoy doing? Make a list of your skills, talents, and interests. This will help you identify what you're naturally drawn to and what you excel at.

  1. Define Your Values

Your values are what you consider to be important in life. They guide your decision-making and determine what matters most to you. When it comes to your career, it's essential to align your values with your work. Make a list of your top values, such as creativity, freedom, security, or community. Then consider how your current or potential career aligns with those values.

  1. Research Options/Try it Out

Once you have identified your strengths, passions, and values, it's time to research the options. Is there a way you can monetise from your strengths and passions? In today's world there are endless possibilities for earning a living. You can quite literally set up your own business for the price of two coffees. So instead of thinking to yourself, "one day i'm going to set up my own business", why don't you start with Day One. Small incremental steps are going to get you to where you want to be and achieve your big goals. This is what all the successful businesses owners started off by doing and failing countless times which finally lead to their success. It is about trial and error.  If you don't allow yourself the mistakes, how do you expect to learn and have all the knowledge you need for a successful business? In order to succeed, you need to test out a lot of ideas to discover what you really need. You need to start by taking action and allow yourself to explore without the fear of failure.

Alternatively, if you know that setting up a business is definitely not for you, look for jobs or industries that align with your interests and values. Don't be afraid to consider unconventional or lesser-known career paths. There are many jobs and industries out there that you may not have heard of, but that could be a perfect fit for you. If you're unsure about a particular career path, try it out before committing. Consider taking a course or workshop, volunteering, or shadowing someone in that field. Network with people in that area and arrange a meeting to discuss what they do. This will give you a sense of what the work is like, ask questions and help you determine if it's the right fit for you.

   4. Create a Plan

Once you have identified a career path that aligns with your strengths, passions, and values, it's time to create a plan to get there. Identify the steps you need to take to achieve your goal, such as getting additional training or education, updating your resume, or networking with others in the industry. Break your plan down into smaller, achievable steps, and set deadlines to keep yourself accountable.

     5. Seek Support

Finding a fulfilling career can be a challenging and sometimes overwhelming process. If you find that you're unsure or doubting yourself, networking is key. Speak to as many people who are where you want to be. Get a mentor or a coach who's going to hold you accountable. It is important to seek support from a life coach, mentor or careers advisor. They can provide guidance, advice, and accountability as you navigate this journey.

Finding a fulfilling career is not an overnight process. It takes time, effort, and self-reflection. However, with the right guidance and support, you can discover a career that aligns with your strengths, passions, and values and brings you a sense of professional fulfilment. Remember, your career is a journey, and it's never too late to make a change.

Don't settle for anything less than a career you love.
